THE WELSH DOBERMANN CLUB -

OPEN SHOW FRIDAY 22ND APRIL 2022

ENTRY: 54 DOGS/60 ENTRIES

Firstly, I would like to thank The Welsh Dobermann Club for inviting me to judge my first breed club show. I have been looking forward to this for many years. Unfortunately, like many others, this was delayed by the pandemic. However, I was very pleased with my entry. I must also thank my very efficient stewards: Jon Crossley, Tina Reid and June Piper, who ensured the ring ran smoothly and made me feel at ease. The Welsh Dobermann Club show is a favourite of mine due to the warm welcome and atmosphere. I would have preferred to have judged outside on the grass, however looking around at the rather cold exhibitors, we decided to go inside. A huge thank you must go to all those who entered under me and stayed, despite the miserable weather. I was pleased with the quality of my entry. Mouths were good and temperaments were brilliant across the board.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (3/0) 1 st . Henderson’s Tuwos Mr Bombastic (RAF NAF) 6 month old black and rust impressive youngster. Instantly caught my eye with his stylish clean outline. Super short and compact. Well developed head for his age, clean blunt wedge with dark eye. Parallel planes with a pleasing length of muzzle. Strong neck leading into a hard topline, which he held at all times. Front and rear angles are beautifully balanced with nothing under or overdone. This boy is balanced throughout with good bone. When moving he exhibited textbook reach and drive. Particularly liked his rotary action, which now I have seen his pedigree, I can see he has inherited from his dam who I have admired previously from the ringside. He has everything in the right place. Shown in hard condition. Looking forward to watching him grow up.

2 nd . Turner’s Rafthouse Wots Occurrin 7 month old black and rust male. Again another nice youngster. Masculine yet elegant clean head. Dark eye, with kind yet alert expression. Really thought his head was well balanced with parallel planes at this stage. Nice length of neck leading into a firm topline. Well boned. Front angles compliment the rear. At the moment he looks raw, but still a pleasing puppy. Moved out well with his handler, covering the ground easily. Would prefer a slightly shorter loin. Presented well, in hard condition

. 3 rd. Tyler’s Jojavik Bombs Away At Asteri

PUPPY DOG (2/0) 1 st . Plowman’s Supeta’s Pocketful Of Glory 12 month old black and rust male. Strong, masculine head with dark eye of correct shape and alert expression. Straight front with tight feet. Good angles front and aft. Good depth of chest. Plenty of bone and substance, well muscled and in hard condition. Super short boy. Good tail set. Really powered round the ring showing off his drive from behind. Handled well.

2 nd . Evans’ Lateagain Heart Of Fire 9 month old black and rust male. I liked the shape of this boy. He has a smart and stylish outline. Dark, almond eyes and parallel planes. Would prefer more underjaw. Very much liked his angulation front and rear. Solid topline which he held at all times. Correct tailset, tail carried well. Would like more of him. On the stack he was perfect but he did not want to play ball on the move today. I would like to see him moved when settled at a steady pace.

JUNIOR DOG (3/0) 1 st. Hutchinson & Mycroft Supeta’s Big Hunk o’Love for Debison 11 month old black and rust male. There’s no doubt when it comes to this lad. Masculine, strong and well muscled. Everything about him impressed me. Total powerhouse. Strong, well proportioned head, dark almond eye. Front and rear angles compliment each other beautifully. Decent length of neck, leading into spot on lay back of shoulder and solid topline. Superb substance throughout. Loved how square and compact he is. He covered the ground easily, moving in harmony with his handler. A clear bond between these two which is lovely to see. Cracking boy. Pleased to award him RBD.

2 nd. Bromwich’s Rafthouse Kickback 14 month old black and rust male. Pleasing blunt wedge shaped head with dark eyes. Used his ears well when alert. Well boned throughout. Would prefer a better return of upper arm and more turn of stifle. Good depth of chest. Short loin. Moved well. Tended to fidget a bit but his handler stayed calm and got the best out of him.

3 rd. Weston’s Lateagain Let Them All Talk

YEARLING DOG (2/0) 1 st . Woodhouse’s Jojavik Master Cutler 20 month old black and rust male. Upstanding dog with smart, sharp outline. Parallel planes, dark eye with keen expression. Correct wedge shape head with clean skull. To be ultra picky, I would prefer a touch more underjaw. Long clean neck leading into correct front assembly. Well laid back shoulders with good return of upper arm. Lovely tight feet. Correct depth of chest with tight elbows. Solid topline which he held at all times. Rear angles compliment the front which you can really see when he strides out. Presented in hard, muscled condition. Expertly handled.

2 nd. Robertson’s Cockneyoka Dire Straits 19 month old black and rust male. Really liked this compact male. Square in outline with good bone and substance. Correct head shape with correct eye colour and shape. Would prefer better planes. He is well put together with correct angles fore and aft. Depth of chest is there with good spring of rib. Would prefer tighter feet. Excellent topline held at all times. This boy is balanced throughout and has potential to really stride out. Unfortunately his movement threw it away today. He had a tendency to throw his elbows and was very erratic on the move. Everything is there to enable him to power round, he just needs some schooling and settling.

NOVICE DOG (3/0) 1 st. Plowman’s Supeta’s Pocketful Of Glory

2 nd. Bromwich’s Rafthouse Kickback

3 rd. Bryan’s Johmar Harlequin

GRADUATE DOG (3/2) 1 st. Merrett’s Xemuti Beamish Boy 3 year old black and rust male. Presents a smart square outline. Chiselled head with correct dark eye and shape. Would prefer a touch more underjaw. Straight front sitting on tight feet. Would prefer slightly longer and better return of upper arm. Chest well let down with tight elbows. Slightly sloping topline leading into correct tailset. Moderate angulated rear, well muscled. He had a tendency to pace, however his handler corrected quickly so show off his fluid movement. Presented and handled well.

LIMIT DOG (3/2) 1 st. Wedbury’s Manzart War Emblem 3 year old black and rust male. Compact, short and square. Strong, masculine, balanced head with dark almond eyes. Straight front with good width, although would prefer tighter feet. Clean neck of good length leading into good layback of shoulder. Would prefer slightly better return of upper arm. Good bone throughout and presented in hard condition. He has a strong, slightly sloping topline which he held when stacked and on the move. Excellent rear angles and tail set. When settled he showed off great drive from behind. He was slightly loose, however this could be down to his excitement.

OPEN DOG (8/3) 1 st . Taylor’s Ch Kreiger’s Foul Play 2 year old black and rust male. When I first saw this lad, I instantly thought WOW. It was a pleasure to put my hands on him. Masculine, elegant, stylish, well muscled and in tip top condition. Beautifully balanced head with everything I look for in a male. Particularly liked his length of muzzle and planes. Good length of neck leading into an excellent front assembly. Fabulous tight feet. Super forechest and depth of chest. Good spring of rib. To be super picky, I would prefer a slightly shorter loin. Quality substance which I find is lacking in our breed at present. Solid topline held at all times. His rear angles were spot on. He really demonstrated how well put together he is on the move. His front extension and drive from behind won him his spot today. He covered the ground effortlessly in harmony with his handler. He really is a fabulous dog and fit for purpose. Was happy to award him BD & RBIS.

2 nd . Jones & Ushakova’s Ch Korifey Vanquish 2 year old black and rust male. Another male I liked very much. He presents a balanced, square, stylish and clean outline. Nothing over or underdone. She has a crisp square outline. Her dark eyes compliment her rich colouring. Her head is long and of correct wedge shape. She gives off an alert expression. I particularly liked her length of muzzle and underjaw. Long strong neck, leading into excellent front assembly. Forechest just right without exaggeration. Elbows close to brisket. Rock solid topline, which she held at all times. Well angulated hindquarters. Presented in top hard condition. Plenty of substance whilst retaining elegance. On the move, she covered the ground effortlessly, foot perfect. Correct reach and drive. Overall a fabulous puppy. Pleased to award her BPB & BPIS

. 2 nd . Wedgbury’s Manzart Xtra Special 10 month old black and rust bitch. Unfortunate today to come up against first. She presents a shapely outline but is very much a baby still. Correct wedge shaped head with dark eyes. She has an alert, yet mischievous expression. Level planes and good length of muzzle. Long, clean neck leading into well placed shoulders. Good angles for and aft. Solid topline. Her chest hasn’t quite dropped fully yet but this will come with time.
